“I’ll Do Something for Me When…” (And Why That Moment Rarely Comes)

For years, I’ve heard women say it, and if I’m honest, I’ve said it myself.

“I want to invest more time in myself.”

“I’ve been meaning to look after my body properly since…”

“I’ll do something for myself when things calm down.”

And the thing is… that moment almost never comes.

Because someone always needs something.

Work spills over. Life keeps moving.

There’s another task, another responsibility, another person who comes first.

So instead of feeling empowered, we end up chasing this idea of “starting again”, usually in January, with big plans and good intentions that quietly slip away under the weight of real life.

This year, I decided to do something different.

Rather than setting big goals or trying to overhaul everything, I stripped it right back.

I focused on:

  • taking my supplements

  • remembering to eat properly

  • and giving my body the basics it actually needs

That’s it.

And honestly? It felt incredibly empowering.

Not because it was impressive.

But because it was doable.

And because it reminded me that investing in yourself doesn’t have to look dramatic to be meaningful.

Sometimes the most important first step isn’t a new routine, a new plan, or a big commitment.

Sometimes it’s simply saying: “I’m going to meet my body where it is, not where I think it should be.”

If you’ve been carrying the thought “I should really do something for myself” around for a while now, maybe this is your permission to start smaller than you think you’re allowed to.

Back to basics

Eating.Resting.Noticing.Supporting your body in quiet ways.

Those things count.

They matter.

And they often create the space for everything else to follow when the time is right.

Bodies and us

This January doesn’t need fixing.

It just needs a bit more understanding.

Love always,

Dawn xx
